Introducing Claude Science: An AI Workbench for Scientists
Today marks a significant expansion in our efforts to harness the power of artificial intelligence for scientific discovery. Since launching our work in the life sciences last fall, we’ve focused on improving model capabilities and making connections to the scientific ecosystem via Machine Code Packages (MCPs) and skills. Today, we’re proud to introduce Claude Science—a new AI workbench designed specifically for scientists.
Claude Science integrates all the tools and packages that researchers commonly use into a single research environment. It produces auditable artifacts and provides flexible access to computing resources. This integration aims to streamline the often tedious process of scientific research, which can involve working across multiple databases with varying schemas, dealing with bespoke data pipelines and viewers for different file formats, and using a range of tools such as PubMed, Jupyter, R, cluster terminals, and more.
Scientific research is inherently fragmented, requiring scientists to juggle various applications. Claude Science addresses this by consolidating these disparate tools into one cohesive environment where researchers can conduct all stages of their work seamlessly. It aids in analyzing literature and executing complex multi-step research projects, generating detailed artifacts that are fully reproducible. Users can iteratively refine figures and manuscripts until they’re ready for publication.
Every output from Claude Science carries an auditable history of its creation process, ensuring you can validate and reproduce the results as needed. Like a Jupyter Notebook, Claude Science is accessible right where users already work—locally on macOS or Linux systems, or remotely via SSH or HPC login nodes.
This integration also includes a generalist coordinating agent with access to over 60 curated skills and connectors pre-configured for genomics, single-cell analysis, proteomics, structural biology, cheminformatics, and more. These agents can launch other specialized ones created by users as needed. Additionally, there’s a reviewer agent that checks citations and calculations, flagging any errors or issues.
Claude Science is now available in beta for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise user groups. We’re committed to refining the platform based on feedback from these early adopters.
At its core, Claude Science streamlines scientific workflows by providing a unified interface that connects all essential tools and resources. It’s designed to be intuitive yet powerful, allowing researchers to focus more on their work and less on managing complex systems. With Claude Science, scientists can expect richer scientific artifacts that are fully reproducible, making the process of sharing research findings smoother and more reliable.
We’re excited about the potential impact this new tool will have on accelerating scientific discovery and advancing healthcare interventions.
