India’s environmental media landscape is about to get a spatial upgrade. ALT EFF — the platform that has spent six editions building an audience for climate and ecological storytelling — is now stepping beyond the screen and into immersive territory, announcing a multi-city showcase across Mumbai, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad.
The move marks a meaningful inflection point. Documentary film and editorial content have long been the workhorses of environmental communication, but immersive formats — virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality experiences — carry a fundamentally different kind of weight. When a viewer stands inside a shrinking glacier or walks through a disappearing mangrove, the cognitive distance that lets people intellectually acknowledge climate change without emotionally processing it begins to collapse.
Why Immersive, Why Now
ALT EFF’s expansion into XR isn’t simply a format experiment. It reflects a broader recognition that conventional media, however powerful, has struggled to convert climate awareness into climate urgency at the community level.
