Born From a Personal Crisis
The company’s origin story is as compelling as its technology. Co-founder and clinical psychologist Nishtha Budhiraja was forced to shutter her physical clinics after an ankle fracture left her unable to see patients in person. Rather than pause operations, she began searching for a way to deliver mental healthcare remotely — without sacrificing clinical quality. The answer, she and co-founder Raunak Swarnkar concluded, was virtual reality.
The pair founded Wundrsight in 2022, blending Budhiraja’s clinical expertise with Swarnkar’s entrepreneurial background to build a platform that brings exposure therapy into the digital age.
Clinician-Controlled, Patient-Centered
At the core of Wundrsight’s approach is a simple but powerful idea: traditional exposure therapy asks patients to conjure anxiety-inducing scenarios in their minds, which is difficult, inconsistent, and hard to measure. VR eliminates that guesswork entirely.
The platform allows therapists to simulate real-world triggers — crowded spaces, social interactions, specific phobia scenarios — and crucially, to control the intensity, pacing, and environment in real time. A clinician can dial up or down the stressor depending on how a patient responds, creating a personalized and adaptive treatment session that’s simply not possible with conventional methods.
Reported by Indian Startup News, the system targets patients dealing with social anxiety, OCD, and PTSD — conditions where avoidance is a core symptom and gradual confrontation is often the most clinically validated path to recovery.
